Case Study: Adelajde

My name is Adelajde, I am 25 years old and I am from Albania.

None of my family members have been to university so this always gave me a sense of encouragement to be able to make them proud. From the age of 15 until 23 I managed to complete different courses such as, GCSE’s, BTEC’s, A levels and NVQs but it was not possible for me to start university due to my immigration status at the time.

In 2014 I managed to obtain my permanent residency and I was finally able to apply for university. The joy was indescribable but there were also worries from the financial aspect of it. I had to think about rent, travel, books and other living expenses as living alone made it harder.

"This would be a great help with my rent and the many study books that I need. I cannot believe such opportunities exist for young people with big dreams."

It was then that I was introduced to Sir Simon Milton Foundation Scholarship programme through the Westminster Accommodation and Leaving Care team. I was very excited to find out that I met the requirements in order to apply. Not long after my application I was very surprised to find out that I had won the scholarship. I now have a £10,000 bursary to ease my life during my academic years.

This would be a great help with my rent and the many study books that I need. I cannot believe such opportunities exist for young people with big dreams. The Sir Simon Milton Foundation Scholarship programme is such an amazing opportunity for everyone out there that has been through rough time and be reminded that life is all about chances.

Thank you Sir Simon Milton Foundation.
