Helping young people to aspire and older people to thrive

Case Study: Hisham Abu-Askar

When I joined university, I was suddenly overwhelmed with the frequent expenses that I had to deal with. I never had to pay for transport whilst attending my secondary school and sixth form as they were both of walking distance from where I lived. Suddenly, during university, I had to pay for my daily travel, buy a laptop to be able to complete my assignments at home, pay for my meals and pay for many other essential living costs. My parents tried supporting me, but I wouldn’t have been able to meet all the daily expenses without the help of this scholarship.

This scholarship has allowed me to appreciate the little things in life. It has meant that I can be less worried about having to pay my daily expenses, enjoy my time at university and most importantly be more focused on excelling in my studies.

This scholarship has not only helped me as an individual but has allowed me to make a difference to other people’s lives. During Charity Week, I decided to climb Mount Snowdon; the highest mountain in Wales, to fund raise as much money as I can to alleviate the suffering of the world’s most vulnerable and needy children. I used some of the scholarship money to pay for my travel expenses and other necessary clothing, but because of this scholarship, I was able to take on that challenge and raise money. For the little amount that I spent from my scholarship, I was able to fund raise an amount multiple times more.

I am happy to know that this Foundation isn’t only supporting and benefiting me, but is allowing me to benefit other less fortunate individuals.
