Brilliant Club - Join the Dots & the Sir Simon Milton Bursary
A new five-year partnership commencing 2025, will support two key initiatives with the Brilliant Club.
- ‘Join The Dots Programme’ - will enable 50 students from Westminster to participate in the Brilliant Club’s flagship programme called ‘Join the Dots’ The programme provides 1-1 and group coaching from PhD researchers, helping students develop key university study strategies, academic self-efficacy and sense of belonging at university.
Students from disadvantaged backgrounds are more likely to drop out of their undergraduate course in the first year and 20% more likely to miss out on a 1st or 2:1 grade at the end of their degree than their more advantaged peers. Running since 2021, evaluation of Join the Dots has shown the programme has a positive impact on those participating.
“ It’s an absolutely amazing programme that provided the best support and tailored advice for all my concerns,.”Student from the Join the Dots Programme.
- Sir Simon Milton Bursary, - this is a new programme providing a £1,000 bursary to 50 students a year. This bursary will be particularly impactful for students attending university in Westminster, who face the additional financial pressure of living and studying in one of the most expensive areas of the country. Less advantaged students are increasingly working alongside their studies to make ends meet. To put the support into context, a bursary of £1,000 could save an 18-year-old student 116 hours of work on minimum wage.
